Extraterrestrial life
Several theories have been proposed about the possible basis of alien
life, such as bacteria, has been theorized by scientists such as Carl Sagan
to exist in the Solar System and quite possibly throughout the Universe.
Aliens have often been depicted
as having light green or gray skin, with a large head, as well as four limbs.
The atomists of ancient Greece like Epicurus believes that an
infinite universe ought to have an infinity of populated worlds. Authors of Jewish sources considered
extraterrestrial life. According to Hindu scriptures, there are innumerable universes to
facilitate the fulfillment of the separated desires of innumerable living entities.
There are an estimated 250 billion (2.5 x 10¹¹) stars in the Milky Way alone, and over 70 sextillion (7
x 10²²) in the visible universe, and many of them are surrounded by multiple planets.
Meanwhile, our 4.5 billion-year old Solar System exists in a universe that is estimated to be between 13.5 and 14 billion years
old. Experts believe that there could be advanced civilizations out there that have existed for 1.8 gig years
The possibility of extraterrestrials remained a widespread speculation
as scientific discovery accelerated. William Herschel, the discoverer of Uranus , was
one of many 18th-19th century astronomers convinced that the Solar
System , and perhaps others, would be well-populated by alien life.
Scientists are directly searching for evidence of unicellular life
within the Solar System, carrying out studies on the surface of Mars and examining meteors which have fallen to Earth.
In February 2005, NASA scientists reported that they had
found strong evidence of present life on Mars. Though such findings are still very much in debate, support among
scientists for the belief in the existence of life on Mars seems to be growing..
On March 06, 2011 NASA scientist Dr Richard Hoover claims to have found life form, which
may explain how life on earth started and what's more, he challenges
anyone to come forth and disprove his claim. An astrobiologist with Nasa's Marshall Space Flight Center, Hoover
explains that travelling to Antarctica, Siberia and Alaska he has studied an extremely rare form of meteorites - CI1 carbonaceous
chondrites - of which only nine are known to exist on earth. Under microscopes, these meteorites showed numerous different fossils of
bacteria - some which are similar to ones on earth and others which are
well, alien. According to him, life on earth could have been planted by bacteria in an asteroid hitting the planet in its infancy.
Search for extrasolar planets
Astronomers also search for extrasolar planets that they believe would be conducive to life, such as Gliese 581 c, Gliese 581 g , Gliese 581 d and GLE-2005-BLG-390Lb
, which have been found to have Earth-like qualities. On April 24, 2007, scientists at the European Southern Observatory in La
Silla, Chile said they had found the first Earth-like planet. The planet, known as Gliese 581 c ,
orbits within the habitable zone of its star Gliese 581 , a red dwarf star which is 20.5 light years (194 trillion km) from the Earth.
In October 21, 2010, 494 extra solar planets have been discovered. Apart from Mars, another world that has caught science’s attention is Europa, one of Jupiter's moons.

Are aliens avoiding us?

If alien life really exists, they would have found humans by now, but consciously avoiding us for unknown reasons, a new study in
January 2012 has suggested. Researchers, who calculated the time a society would take to muster up
the resources and know-how to travel to another world, found that alien
civilisations starting from the oldest stars in the galaxy would have
had more than enough time to reach Earth. "We are either alone, or they are out there and leave us alone," lead
study author Thomas Hair, a mathematician with Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, was quoted
by Discovery News. Light travels at about 186,000 miles per second. Figure another 500
years to build new ships, set out again, and so on and so on, and the
calculations show that civilisations starting out from the oldest stars
in our galaxy would have had epochs of time to reach us by now. So where
are they? "They've either passed us by, or they stay around their home
star systems and contemplate their navels," Hair said.
There could be several reasons why we are not listed in intergalactic
Yelp. Perhaps most important is that we don't have anything aliens need.
"Any ancient civilisation is probably not biological. They don't need a
place like Earth. They don't need to come here and steal our water.
There's plenty of it out in the outer solar system where the gravity is
not so great and they can just take all they want," Hair said. Or perhaps modern-day extraterrestrials are following routes laid out
long ago, all of which bypass Earth, he added. Hair presented his research at the Mathematical Association of America in Boston recently.
Aliens From Outer Space
. Professor Simon Conway Morris at Cambridge University
said in a conference on alien life that extraterrestrials will most likely
have evolved just like “earthlings” and so resemble us to a degree with heads, limbs and bodies.
The evolutionary paleobiologist’s beliefs mean that science fiction films such as Star Wars and Star Trek could be more accurate than they ever imagined in depicting alien life.
Aliens from outer space are already among us on earth, say Bulgarian
government scientists who claim they are already in contact with extraterrestrial life.
Work on deciphering a complex set of symbols sent to them
isunderway, scientists from the country’s Space Research Institute
said. They claim aliens are currently answering 30 questions posed to them.
Lachezar Filipov, deputy director of the Space Research Institute ofthe Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, confirmed the research.
He said the centre’s researchers were analysing 150 crop circles from around the world, which they believe answer the questions.
“Aliens are currently all around us, and are watching us all the time,” Mr Filipov told Bulgarian media.
“They are not hostile towards us, rather, they want to help us but we have not grown enough in order to establish direct contact with them”
Extra-terrestrials might not only resemble us but have our foibles, such as greed, violence and a tendency to exploit others' resources,
says Simon Conway Morris professor of evolutionary paleobiology at Cambridge University.
And while aliens could come in peace they are quite as likely to be
searching for somewhere to live, and to help themselves to water, minerals and fuel, Conway Morris will tell a conference at the Royal
Society in London in January 2010. On March 2, 201 Air traffic controllers in Siberia claim to have been buzzed by a
high-speed UFO with a female sounding alien speaking to them in an unintelligible cat-like language.
The object had suddenly burst onto flight monitors over the remote Russian
diamond capital of Yakutsk, and it was shown flying at a speed of slightly over
6000 mph, and rapidly changing direction. The UFO was logged at a height of 64, 895 feet above sea level and appeared to
interfere with aviation frequencies.

Aliens have been visiting Earth for
decades
Accusing world famous astrophysicist Stephen Hawking of spreading misinformation
about threats from aliens, former Canadian defence minister Paul Hellyer claimed on May 03, 2010 that extraterrestrials have
actually been visiting earth for decades. Rather than harm mankind, he
said, their (aliens') spaceships have provided information for triggering the microchip and IT
revolution in the planet. Hellyer told the Canadian Press that "the reality is that they (aliens)
have been visiting earth for decades and probably millennia and have contributed considerably to our knowledge."
Hawking recently warned humanity against contacting aliens. According to Hawking, if human beings tried to contact aliens, they
could invade us and take away our most important resources. "If they (aliens) wanted to use our solar system, for some super
project, our complaints would be like an ant colony protesting the
laying of a parking lot," Hawking has said in a new documentary. Hawking has also said that though most extraterrestrial life could be
only in the form of small animals, but there could also be "nomads, looking to conquer and colonise" other planets.
Search
for alien life The US space agency's search for alien life is based upon the mantra
"follow the water", a strategy reflecting the fact that, on Earth, where
there's water there's life. Recent missions have revealed ice on the moon and Mars.

Astronomers have detected more than 400 planets outside our solar
system, some of which sit in the "Goldilocks zone" where the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water to form.
Conway Morris will argue that alien life is most likely to occur on a
planet similar to our own, with organisms made from the same biochemical. The process of evolution will
shape alien life in a similar way, he said. If life has evolved elsewhere in our cosmic neighbourhood, we should
find out by detecting their waste gases in the atmosphere of their planet or by discovering remnants of extra-terrestrial microbes in
meteorites or alien soil samples, Harrison said. The new mission, called CASS-E has been assembled in a sterile
environment normally reserved for missions being sent to other planets such as Mars.
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO)

Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have been subject to investigations over the years that vary widely
in scope and scientific rigor. Governments or independent academics in
the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Peru, France,
Belgium, Sweden, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Spain, and the Soviet
Union are known to have investigated UFO reports at various times.
It has been claimed that all UFO cases are anecdotal and that all can be explained as prosaic
natural phenomena. On the other hand, it has been argued that there is
limited awareness among scientists of observational data, other than what is reported in the popular press.
Some public government conclusions have indicated physical reality but
stopped short of concluding extraterrestrial origins, though not dismissing the possibility. Examples are the Belgian military
investigation into large triangles over their airspace in 1989–1991 and the recent 2009 Uruguay Air Force study conclusion
UFOs are sometimes an element of elaborate conspiracy theories in which governments are said to be
intentionally covering up the existence of aliens, or sometimes collaborating with them. There are many versions of this story; some are
exclusive, while others overlap with various other conspiracy theories.

The recently releas-ed science fiction movie District 9 described how a
colony of aliens, when their mother ship is stuck over Johannesburg in South Africa, might look like.
On March 2, 201 Air traffic controllers in Siberia claim to have been buzzed by a
high- speed UFO with a female sounding alien speaking to them in an unintelligible cat- like language.
